Basic Information Concerning Tricycles

For all of those individuals that are unaware of what a tricycle is, it is a vehicle that consists of three-wheels. Generally, the tricycles follow one of two different layouts. The first layout is known as the delta and it has one wheel up front and two wheels at the back. One or either both of the rear wheels may be driven, while the front wheel is also used for steering, this is the usual layout. However, there are times that the rear wheels may steer while the front wheel is driven, and it may also be a combination of both.

The second layout is the tadpole; these tricycles have two wheels that are steered at the very front and one wheel that is driven at the back, which is the usual layout. The front wheels may also be driven while the rear wheels are being steered, or either all three of the wheels may be powered with the front wheels, or all three of the wheels may be powered along with the front wheels which also perform the steering.

However, you should know that not all of the tricycles are going to fall into this category. For instance, there are some of the early forms of pedal tricycles that used two wheels within tandem, one on the side and some sort of larger driving wheel on the other. All-in-all, it is very common for tricycles to consist of both rear and front wheels of several different sizes.

There are some of the tricycles that were designed specifically for load carrying. There are other tricycles that are designed for comfort or racing. There are some recumbent tricycles that are fully enclosed for all weather use and aerodynamic benefits, all of these are referred to as velomobiles. The tandem trikes are created also by companies like ICE or Inspired Cycle Engineering and Greenspeed.

These tricycles allow two individuals to ride within a recumbent position back to back with a backbone frame that is extra strong in order to hold all of the extra weight. The hand-crank trikes also are created by companies such as Greenspeed and they allow the arms to operate some type of crank, either as a power source or either as a double drive with the foot power.

Most of the cycle rickshaws, which are used for carrying passengers that are for hire, are also tricycles. All of these vehicles are used widely within Southeast Asia and South Asia, but they have also managed to become popular within Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America as an advertising media within the larger cities.

In the event that you are interested in learning more about tricycles, there is an abundance of information online that you are able to learn about tricycles.
